New Classes, Big Smiles at CSF Summer Academy!

Coronado Schools Foundation’s Summer Academy was bigger and better than ever this year, with a fresh name, new classes and 285 students enrolled in the expanded three-week schedule. The newly revamped summer enrichment, now in its 11th year, offered tons of hands-on STEM & Arts inspired classes for children entering grades TK-12th.

Students of all ages were able to try fun new interactive STEM classes, such as slime making in Wacky Science and Domino Chain Reactions, as well as art classes, like sewing, cooking, poetry, gardening and more.

A huge hit this year was the brand new Behind-the-Scenes Coronado class where students got an inside look at city landmarks, like the holding cells at the Coronado Police Department and the pastry kitchen and underground tunnel at the Hotel Del. They also got to help stock the shelves at Boney’s Bayside Market and helped mix in flavors to the latest batch of fresh gelato at Gelato Paradiso.

“These past three weeks children were able to experience STEAM, learn a new skill, and even explore our community. It was wonderful to see children laughing and learning simultaneously,” said Julia Braga, Principal of CSF Summer Academy. “Thank you to everyone who attended and made it such a success!”

CSF was thrilled with the amazing community participation this year and would like to thank the generous donors who helped make the program possible. Thanks to the Coronado Rotary Club, CalPrivate Bank, Mullins Orthodontics and Coronado Junior Woman’s Club for their donations to ensure scholarships were available to students in need.
