$114,500 for five initiatives
In addition to the Program Funding (Block Grant and TRT Funding), each year CSF works in conjunction with the schools to identify a program or equipment that require supplemental funding to launch or complete. This funding is directed to the special project and funds are returned immediately to the school sites, and divided equitably by enrollment. $60,000/year to our schools
Since the 2005-06 school year, the trustees of the local Lipp Family Foundation have generously given the schools $60,000 per year to support math, science and music in Coronado’s public schools. $30,000 of these funds comes in the fall and are allocated per school based on the enrollment. The remaining $30,000 is returned to the schools in the program funding for TRTs and the band program at CHS (see below). The Board of Directors and staff as well at the teachers and students who benefit, are so very appreciative of this significant funding source.
$12,000/year
In response to a request from the CUSD Vertical Music Team’s (grades K-12) goal to increase general student population involvement in band and choir to piggyback on the great program at CMS, for the 2006-07 school year CSF funded the $12,000 salary for advanced band. In this way, the school was able to offer both beginning and advanced band as well as choir. For the 2007-08 school year, the CHS Band Boosters stepped up to co-fund the $12,000 advanced band salary with CSF ($6,000 each).
$2,000 for Royalty Fees
In the fall of 2007, the Board of Directors approved a special funding initiative to pay for the royalty fees for the All Schools Musical, Oliver! This annual event is open to all school children in Coronado, at both public and private schools, and brings over 150 children together in a much-anticipated annual event. Children pay a small fee to contribute and many parent volunteers help sew costumes, sell program ads, etc. However, each year it is always a challenge to fund the rent and royalty fees. This year CSF stepped up as the Presenting Partner by funding the $2,000 in fees. Click here for more information. (RICH – ADD ALL SCHOOLS MUSICAL PRESS RELEASE LINK HERE PLEASE)
$1,000
The new CHS Theatre is a state of the art facility and will be the new home of the CSF Annual Telethon presented by Time Warner Cable as of March of 2008. The original designed lacked steps to stage left, resulting in students of all ages performing on the stage with no access. So, the CSF Board of Directors donated $1,000 to the Wood Hobby Shop and the teacher and students are custom designing the steps which will be a permanent and much appreciated fixture.
$27,000/year on average from private donors
CSF facilitates nearly 1/3 of the approximately 100 scholarships made available to graduating seniors at Coronado High thanks to the generosity of private donors. These scholarships account for approximately $27,000/year and the awards range from $200 to a full tuition scholarship at San Diego State University for $27,500 over 5 years.
