During the CSF fiscal year (July 1 to June 30th) funds are raised through donor Partner in Education (PIE) campaigns and major gifts as well as through two major benefit events, the fall Benefit Auction and spring Telethon. During the school year some funds are returned through specific projects, private donor scholorships for graduationg CHS seniors, and at the end of the schoo/fiscal year, the balance of funds are divided equitably among the school sites in the form of Program Funding. Program Funding
Block Grants, Technology Resource Teachers (TRT) and STEAM
The balance of funds are returned to the schools to support non-mandated but deemed essential programs identified in each school site’s strategic plan. These funds can be used for equipment, salaries or supplies for essential programs. In the spring of 2007, CSF forged a partnership with all parent teacher groups to ensure donations received from all groups funded the highest academic need while ensuring classrooms still had the supplies needed in this time of challenging and declining state funding. As a result of this partnership, parent teacher groups are providing direct classroom support for supplies and equipment and CSF funds are used for programs and projects tied to the site strategic plans.
For the sixth consecutive year, CSF is funding a part time Technology Resource Teacher (TRT) at each school site as requested by teachers and administrators. Click here for more details on what the TRT funding supports. Once the TRT program is funded ($120,000), the balance of Foundation funds raised constitute Block Grant funding:
- These funds are distributed equitably to all campuses based on student enrollment with a consideration made for schools that currently face or may face declining enrollment.
What can the fund be used for? Programs that support the site strategic plan, a five-year vision that is updated annually by the Site Strategic Planning Committee at each campus, comprised of teachers, parents, community members, and students.
Thanks to the generosity of many parent and community donors, CSF increased has increased its total revenue generated and returned to the school or the endowment fund by 250% since June 2004.

Coronado Schools Foundation Endowment Board
Thanks to the foresight of the parents and community members who founded CSF in 1982, an endowment was started to ensure the Foundation’s support of our public schools in perpetuity. In the 2010-11 school year, this fund reached the initial goal of $1M, a major milestone due to the generosity of so many. With the first major legacy gift also received in that year of $3.8M from Frances Goodrich Harpst, CSF now has over $5M to ensure in perpetuity the support of our local schools. A CSF Endowment Board is being established, with legal and financial professionals from the local community, voluntering their time to serve on this board to ensure CSF the exemplary management over these funds. In addition, the CSF Ex Officio and Finance Chair will sit on this board and the CSF Executive Director will oversee both foundations.
- The CSF Finance Committee provides direct oversight for the management of the endowment and reviews its endowment policy annually.
- Donations can be made directly to the Schwab One account via stock, cash or mutual fund donations and are an excellent way to remember the public schools in estate planning. Please contact the Executive Director at patty@csfkids.org for details on how to make an endowment gift.
It is anticipated that 4% of the corpus will be returned annually to the schools. This translates to an additional $200,000 for the 2011-12 school year. |
