CSF begins it's 30th year as we launch the 2011-12 school year. In the early 1980's, the passage of Proposition 13 drastically reduced funding for public education in California. As a result, in 1982, a group of concerned parents and community members got together to form the Coronado Schools Foundation, a nonprofit public benefit corporation. Committed to children and to helping the Coronado Unified School District maintain its tradition of excellence, the Foundation remains today a critical source of funding for our schools.
CSF has a small professional staff who work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure donors funds are used for the highest educational and technology needs. If you are interested in getting more involved, please contact csf@csfkids.org.
CSF and its volunteers work hard to supplement our shrinking school budgets. The two biggest fundraisers are the annual Benefit Auction (held in the fall) and Telethon (held in the spring). Annual Partner in Education (PIE) giving programs for businesses, parents and community members bring in much needed dollars for our public schools. CSF also has a Planned Giving Honor Society and now has over $5,000,000 in its legacy/endowment fund, to ensure financial support for our schools in perpetuity. Designated gifts to this account are welcome and can be made in the form of cash, stocks or bonds. Please contact Executive Director Patty Cowan at patty@sfkids.org for more information.
CSF funds equally benefit all five Coronado public schools: Silver Strand Elementary, Village Elementary, Coronado Middle School, Coronado High School, and Palm Academy. At the end of each fiscal year all net proceeds are divided on a per capita basis and disbursed in the form of Block Grants and other program support to the local school sites for spending. This year CSF is providing substantial funding ($120,000) for a part time Technology Resource Teacher at each campus and is returning $190,000 for Block Grants at each site and an additonal $200,000 for STEAM funding. See Program Funding page for more details. Since 1982, CSF has returned over $4,8M thanks to the generosity of so many and the dedicated efforts of a navy of volunteers and dedicated staff.
